Bex Gilbert is a freelance illustrator with a background in journalism who also works as a communications specialist for charities.
During the Pandemic, after a career focussed on storytelling using the written word, Bex started using drawing to tell stories too. Her self-published book, One Day At A Time - a lockdown diary, documents the heart-breaking, hopeful and bizarre series of UK and world events that took place during the Coronavirus Pandemic, from social distancing to hospitals in crisis to a British pensioner raising £30m for charity.
Bex says the goal of her illustration is to give a voice and platform to people who are ignored, misrepresented or misunderstood, helping tell powerful stories so people understand, empathise and take action. She also likes to make people laugh.
Illustration is a great way to explain complex issues simply and powerfully. It can be a central element of awareness and fundraising campaigns and can be used to grab people’s attention and challenge them to think and act differently.
